TIDE TIMES
Mersea is linked to the mainland by a causeway called The Strood.

The causeway can become flooded during high tides
. . . and no there ain't no ferry across.

This year there are exceptionally high tides and you
WILL NOT be able to cross the causeway.
Please don't take the risk as your scooter or car will be severely damaged by sea water.

The times below indicate when the tide peaks.
The causeway can be covered up to an hour before and after these times.

Date Time Height Time Height
31/08/2007 02.51 5.32m 14:30 5.30m
01/09/2007 03.27 5.25m 15:30 5.10m
02/09/2007 04.05 5.06m 16:00 5.10m

Tides in excess of 4.40m MIGHT flood the Strood.
Those in excess of 4.80m WILL flood the Strood.
Strong winds will also increase the risk of flooding.

If you can't get across the Strood just go back a couple of miles and grab a drink at the Peldon Rose while the tide drops.
