Lee (Biff) Baker

   

The lad on the left is my Granddad Len Baker, the picture was taken in 1940 when he had been in the RAF about 4 weeks. He was a fitter working on bombers and was shot down in 1941 after returning home from a bombing raid on Hannover. Half the crew were killed, he survived but lost his hearing. In his own words from then on he became surplus to requirements and was posted all over place until he left the RAF in 1946. He wrote a book about his experiences in the RAF which he called "Surplus to requirements" and this is what I am going to call my scooter. He is still alive today and 85 next month.

The girl on the right is my Nan Peggy Baker the picture was taken around 1940 when she was nurse working in Whitehall hospital during the blitz. She died of cancer 6 years ago but is still very much in my thoughts.

I plan on getting some more graphics made up, one being the bomber my granddad would have flown in and the words "Surplus to requirements"
