Because Imber was such an isolated community, there is an exceptional degree of inter-marriage among the families of the village. This added to the "Soulful" feeling of the place.

Imber has become a "ghost town," having been suddenly and permanently evacuated by the military in 1980. The village is now in the middle of a major artillery range and is closed to the public for most of the year. The village has an open day once a year in September, and the roads are open on certain other days. Most of the original buildings have disappeared or are in ruins, although the church is out of bounds to military operations and remains relatively unscathed

Maybe there are some who read this in the Southern part of Britain who find it hard to understand just why I rave so much about Imber, and perhaps this is because they have never been there and seen it first hand for themselves, because believe me, there just is no equivalent in London, and until you’ve been there I don’t think any mere written word can fully convey to you that special and unique vibration that generates amongst the brothers and sisters there. I only wish it were easier for people to get there so that they could experience it for themselves, but if you do decide to make it to the Imber Village Soul Club one weekend then take my word for it that you’ll find a warm welcome there, and a nicer crowd of swingers and friends it would be hard to imagine! Until August 21st 1971 I had always thought of Imber as a place were cousins marry, but from then on in I shall always and forever remember it as Imber — Soul Heaven here on earth, and a pious pilgrimage that I would urge all the faithful to undertake as often as they possibly can. Keep the faith - right on now! Imber Village Soul Club awaits you! My deepest thanks to you all."    Dave Godson 1971
